LETTER FROM PRESIDENT WEBER

For many years, San Diego State University and others in the community have shared the goal of revitalizing the blighted area south of the transit center and Aztec Walk to provide student housing, quality retail and other amenities that are mutually beneficial to the university and surrounding community. We are pleased to announce our proposal for an innovative mixed-use project called Plaza Linda Verde to accomplish that goal.

Plaza Linda Verde will address long-standing university and community needs within a sustainable, pedestrian / bicycle-friendly, transit-oriented development that will be built utilizing “green” building guidelines and principles. It will include much-needed student housing, retail and parking that will serve both the campus and community.

Unlike other redevelopment scenarios that relied on the condemnation of private property that could delay development for years, SDSU can deliver this project faster than a private developer going through the redevelopment process. In fact, we will be able to break ground by the summer of 2011, and complete the first phase of the project by fall 2013.

Working with the community on Plaza Linda Verde is a priority for the university, and we will be implementing a comprehensive outreach program to communicate with and receive input from neighboring residents. As a valued member of this community, we are looking forward to your participation in the upcoming months.
