SAN DIEGO (Monday, June 25, 2007) — What will the San Diego region’s climate look like 50 years in the future?

On July 12, the San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health will host a forum, titled “The Climate Forecast: Mitigation and Adaptation in the San Diego Region.” The event will feature keynote speaker Ezequiel Ezcurra, Ph.D., director of the Biodiversity Research Center of the Californias at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Additionally, there will be exhibits, breakout sessions and a reception during the daylong event, taking place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Montezuma Hall at SDSU’s Aztec Center.

"This will be the first regional dialogue to identify the organizations, programs and expertise that will lead the effort to address the impacts of a changing climate," said co-organizer Ann de Peyster of the Graduate School of Public Health, which provided funding for the event. "In the coming years, it will be important for government and nongovernmental agencies to plan appropriately for a growing population in a region with limited resources."

Additionally, the forum will explore the implications of AB 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, and other climate-related bills at the federal and state levels, as well as garner commitment from subgroups to follow up after the conference on further identifying challenges and barriers presented during the forum. Registration information and other details can be found online.
