SAN DIEGO (Wednesday, June 6, 2007) - San Diego State University’s Center for Public Health Security, along with the Homeland Security Defense Education Consortium, will host the West Coast Regional Catastrophic Incident Response Workshop on June 14 through 15.
The workshop’s main goal is to enhance the joint effectiveness of emergency response and public health professionals in the event of a major nuclear incident. The workshop will also explore how academia can assist in the understanding, planning and preparing for a threat or attack involving nuclear/radiological weapons, as well as strengthening capabilities to manage the response to and recovery from such a catastrophic incident. HSDEC is partnering with SDSU to serve as a forum for the development, enrichment and propagation of the science and art of homeland security and homeland defense through research, teaching and outreach.
Workshop presenters and audience members represent emergency response and public health professionals, faculty and military from across California. The keynote speaker is Dr. Cesar Aristeiguieta, director of the California Emergency Medical Services Authority. The event is free and open to the public, and will be held at the SDSU campus.
