Meet Famous Aztecs and More at Explore SDSU
Open House on Saturday, April 8
Daylong event features famous alums, family-friendly entertainment
and more

SAN DIEGO – (Wednesday, March 29, 2006) – Meet Aztecs baseball coach Tony Gwynn, Mayor Jerry Sanders and former NFL All-Pro Brian Sipe on Saturday, April 8, when San Diego State University hosts Explore SDSU Open House 2006 presented by The San Diego Union-Tribune and Time Warner Cable.

Explore SDSU runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and showcases a variety of "villages," tours, events and activities for the whole family. Thousands of admitted students, alumni and community members are expected to attend this free open house event.

"Explore SDSU is a great opportunity to see what makes SDSU a powerhouse university," said Jack Beresford, assistant vice president of marketing and communications. "From our famous alums to our current students, SDSU is making a difference throughout the region and the world."

Highlights of Explore SDSU include:

  • The Go Aztecs! Village will feature famous alums for autographs and photo opportunities. In addition to Gwynn, Sanders and Sipe, other SDSU participating alums include NBC San Diego's Ken Kramer and Kimberly King, former football player Fred Dryer and Chargers linebacker Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, among others.
  • Kids Zone Village where kids can meet PBS characters Clifford and Arthur, paint a kayak, make a crazy hat and zoom down a giant slide!
  • SDSU and the Community Village where visitors can see how SDSU students, alumni and faculty are helping in the local community and around the world .
  • Three stages of entertainment presented by The San Diego Union-Tribune and Time Warner Cable, including local jazz, classical and ethnic musicians, student groups, dance troupes and vignettes from the musical "Lucha La Libre."
  • Tours around campus, including general campus tours, tours of the Athletic department facilities, Love Library, the Children's Center, KPBS studios and many more!

Parking and admission are free. Guests are encouraged to use the parking lots east of College Avenue , or to take the San Diego trolley Green Line to campus.

Other special events include:

  • A 1 p.m. baseball game at Tony Gwynn Stadium vs. University of New Mexico (ticket purchase required).
  • Both the men's and women's tennis teams will compete in their new tennis facility that afternoon.
