SAN DIEGO, Tuesday,
March 1, 2005 San Diego State Universitys third annual
SDSU Month celebration officially gets into high gear today with
many ways for people to join SDSU in honoring 75 years of excellence
on Montezuma Mesa and the achievements of the universitys
alumni, students, faculty and staff.
This week, signature events include the Kyoto
Laureate Symposium, with a free public lecture by personal computer
visionary Alan Curtis Kay at SDSU on Thursday, March 3; and the
33rd annual Montys Awards Gala on Saturday, March 5. In all, SDSU
Month 2005 features more than 80 academic, arts and athletic offerings
between now and April 9, when the celebration concludes with Explore
SDSU Open House 2005 presented by The San Diego Union-Tribune
and Time Warner Cable and an evening concert by The Dan Band.
Special SDSU Month partnerships with local
businesses also begin today, including offers at Rubios Fresh
Mexican Grill, U.S. Bank, Time Warner Cable, San Diego Magazine
and Woodstocks Pizza that support the SDSU Month Scholarship
Challenge. The Challenge raises funds to support some of SDSUs
most deserving students.
More details on events and special offers
can be found at www.sdsumonth.com.
Also starting this week, visitors to www.sdsumonth.com
can review the history of the campus since first moving to its current
location in 1931. Besides reading about campus milestones in a virtual
history book, they can enjoy browsing through brief stories about
campus life submitted by alumni and other members of the campus
community via the When I Was at State sweepstakes.
SDSU alumni, students and others can still
participate in the When I Was at State sweepstakes until
April 9 by going to www.sdsumonth.com and submitting a story about
their experiences at San Diego State. One person will be chosen
at random to win the sweepstakes grand prize two 2005-2006
season tickets to SDSU football, basketball and baseball games.
