SAN DIEGO, Friday, August 20, 2004 - San Diego State University’s undergraduate international business program now ranks among the nation’s top 10, according to U.S. News and World Report.

The SDSU major, offered jointly by SDSU’s College of Arts & Letters and College of Business, has risen to an all-time high ranking of seventh on the magazine’s “America’s Best Colleges 2005” list, up from 11th last year. The rankings are posted on www.usnews.com today and will be on newsstands next week.

Steven J. Sacco, chair of SDSU’s International Business program, credits the program’s success to its combination of rigorous language, study abroad and internship requirements, balanced with essential business courses in a variety of disciplines.

“Our international business program has become a national model for its innovation and quality, and it produces well-rounded graduates who are ready to excel in today’s global environment,” Sacco said.

SDSU’s international business program, with more than 700 students, is widely noted for offering the first transnational, triple-degree programs in the country (one with universities in Mexico and Canada, the other with universities in Mexico and Chile). The Institute for International Education also has recognized the international business program as the best study abroad program in the country – in any area of study.

In addition, SDSU ranked 21st for least average debt among graduates, and 24th for diversity. SDSU’s College of Engineering also ranks among the top 100 such colleges at doctoral institutions, placing 99th.

San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region. Founded in 1897, SDSU has grown to offer bachelor's degrees in 81 areas, master's degrees in 72 areas and doctorates in 14. SDSU's more than 33,000 students participate in academic curricula distinguished by direct contact with faculty and an increasing international emphasis that prepares them for a global future.
