SDSU Investigates Allegation
of Theft Involving Athletic Gear
No allegation determined to be true
SAN DIEGO, Tuesday, June 11, 2002 - Officials
at San Diego State University today announced the university is
investigating an allegation of theft of athletic gear and misuse
of public funds in the university's department of athletics. The
investigation has just begun; it is too early to have reached any
conclusions.
The investigation, led by the California
State University Chancellor's Office and its auditor in coordination
with SDSU auditing personnel, began Monday, June 10, and is expected
to take several weeks to complete.
"Right now, all we have received are
unsubstantiated allegations by one individual," said Sally
Roush, SDSU vice president for business and financial affairs. "Because
of the seriousness of the allegation, the university has acted swiftly
to investigate this matter, protect the public interest and secure
locations that may be helpful in the investigation."
