FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SDSU Summer Session Continues to Grow
SAN DIEGO, Thursday, May 23, 2002 San Diego
State University is set to experience its largest summer session
enrollment ever, as more than 8,000 students are expected to take
classes during the summer term, which begins Tuesday, May 28.
Expanding the summer session is part of SDSU's
transition to year-round operations, a key strategy to help SDSU
accommodate student demand expected from "Tidal Wave II,"
the name educators have given to the current period of soaring enrollment.
"There will be more variety among the courses
available in all seven colleges," said SDSU Provost Nancy Marlin.
"Summer Session 2002 will help meet the demand in many of the
most impacted classes, and will permit students who wish to graduate
sooner to do so."
Registration for summer session is still available.
Students can find registration information at www.sdsu/summersession/.
Students not enrolled at SDSU may also register
for summer session courses on a space-available basis. However,
fees for those students will be paid in accordance with SDSU's College
of Extended Studies' fee structure.
San Diego State University is the oldest and largest
higher education institution in the San Diego region. Founded in
1897, SDSU has grown to offer bachelor's degrees in 78 areas, master's
degrees in 61 areas and doctorates in 13. SDSU's more than 34,000
students participate in academic curricula distinguished by direct
contact with faculty and an increasing international emphasis that
prepares them for a global future. For more information log on to
