The Campanile Foundation Names Jeffrey
Lipinsky to Board
SAN DIEGO, Monday, March 11, 2002
- San Diego State University welcomed Jeffrey Lipinsky to the board
of The Campanile Foundation to fill the vacant seat last held by
his late father, lifelong SDSU philanthropist Bernard Lipinsky.
Bernard Lipinsky died Dec. 25, 2001 at age 87.
Jeffrey Lipinsky received his bachelor's
degree in business administration from SDSU in 1966. His wife, Sheila
Lipinsky, and sister, Elaine Lipinsky, also attended SDSU.
"I'm proud to be a member of
The Campanile Foundation and to join this organization's philanthropic
mission on behalf of SDSU," Jeffrey Lipinsky said. "I'm
looking forward to the challenge of building on my father's contributions
to the university."
Bernard Lipinsky's generosity can
be seen all over the SDSU campus - in the clock tower that bears
his name, in the Lipinsky Institute for Judaic Studies and in the
faces of students who benefit from scholarship funds and other forms
of student support he established at SDSU.
"As a member of the TCF board,
Jeffrey will have the opportunity to continue his family's prominent
role in shaping the future of the university," said Theresa
Mendoza, foundation CEO and vice president of University Advancement.
Jeffrey Lipinsky will serve out the
remainder of the term ending November 2003 that was previously being
served by Bernard Lipinsky. The Campanile Foundation board now has
24 members, led by Chairman Ron L. Fowler, president and CEO of
Liquid Investments, Inc.
The Campanile Foundation is the university's
philanthropic foundation for securing and managing private gifts.
It helped SDSU set an institutional fund-raising record in 2000-01
with $42.1 million, which included an 89 percent increase over the
previous year's dollars for support of academic, faculty and student-oriented
programs.
San Diego State University is the
oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego
region. Since it was founded in 1897, SDSU has grown to offer bachelor's
degrees in 78 areas, master's degrees in 61 areas and doctorates
in 14. SDSU's more than 34,000 students participate in academic
curricula distinguished by direct contact with faculty and an increasing
international emphasis that prepares them for a global future. For
