Expert on Death Penalty for the Mentally Ill
SAN DIEGO, Tuesday, February 12, 2002
San Diego State University offers the following legal expert
to discuss the United States Supreme Court hearing on capital punishment
for the mentally retarded.
Prof. John Cleary, Criminal Justice
Cleary is an expert on constitutional law and he has argued before
the U.S. Supreme Court on six criminal cases. He started teaching
graduate-level classes at SDSU in 1990. He is a partner of the San
Diego law firm Cleary & Sevilla. He received his undergraduate
and law degrees from Layola University. While in the U.S. Army,
he served as the judge advocate officer for the 101st Airborne Division
and as the first judge advocate for the Green Berets. To schedule
