SDSU’s undergraduate business program also ranked among the nation’s best at No. 71, the highest ranking for a business program in the CSU system. SDSU was also ranked for ethnic diversity and low debt for its graduates. Earlier this year, U.S. News and World Report ranked the SDSU’s master’s program in international business No. 21 in the nation.
“With these distinctions, San Diego State is gaining a national reputation for academic quality,” said Jack Beresford, assistant vice president for marketing and communications. “We've always had several nationally-ranked academic programs but now the university as a whole is being recognized as a top urban research university.”
This summer, SDSU has obtained a number of high rankings from several publications across many disciplines.
Of the most notable is SDSU’s No. 1 research ranking for universities with 14 or fewer Ph.D. programs. The ranking was based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index published by Academic Analytics. Other significant rankings over the last few months include:
- SDSU's undergraduate entrepreneur program was listed in Fortune Magazine's top 25 list of "America's Best Colleges for Entrepreneurs" in August 2007.

This 2008 edition of “America's Best Colleges” uses the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching's recently announced 2006 basic version of its Carnegie Classifications. The Carnegie Classifications have been the basis of the Best Colleges ranking categories since the first rankings in 1983 and are used in higher-education research.
