SAN DIEGO (Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006)-- The Campanile Foundation, San Diego State's philanthropic foundation, recently elected four new directors and named SDSU Vice President of University Relations and Development Mary Ruth Carleton as CEO.
"Our new directors will play a vital role in SDSU’s future fund-raising efforts," Carleton said. "These new board members support our goals and recognize the need to expand opportunities for private investments in the university."
Several new directors were elected and installed at the Nov. 16 TCF meeting, including:
• Mary Curran, executive vice president of
Union Bank of California, was elected as a
community member. Curran has also been
involved with SDSU's Entrepreneurial
Management Center, serving as a
member on the EMC advisory board.
• Richard H. Vortmann, who recently served as
interim president and CEO of the
San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce,
was elected as a community member.
• Matthew Keipper, president of
SDSU’s Associated Students, was elected
as a student representative. AS is the
representative body of SDSU's more than
34,500 students.
• William Tong, SDSU chemistry professor,
was elected as a faculty representative.
Additionally, retiring CEO and former SDSU Vice President of University Advancement Theresa Mendoza, was appointed director emeritus, in recognition of her role as the founding CEO of TCF, as well as her outstanding contributions since the organization's inception.
TCF directors are volunteer members serving three-year terms, with the exception of the student representative who serves a one-year term. The board is chaired by Ron L. Fowler, CEO and chairman of Liquid Investments Inc.
In 1999, SDSU launched The Campanile Foundation. Organized as a 501(c)(3) corporation, the foundation provides SDSU with the community expertise, oversight and advocacy to increase private giving and manage the philanthropic assets of the university.
