SAN DIEGO – (Monday, Dec. 5, 2005) – The Campanile Foundation, San Diego State University’s philanthropic foundation, has appointed five new members to its board of directors. They are Thomas Ault, Dorothy Codling, Bruce Ives, Rodney Lanthorne and student Arlene Hady.
The Campanile Foundation supports the expansion of opportunities for philanthropic investments in the university. It is responsible for managing the university’s private gifts and endowment. Since the foundation was launched in 1999, it has helped raise $234.7 million.
“We are delighted to welcome these respected and talented community leaders to our board,” said Theresa Mendoza, vice president for University Advancement at SDSU and chief executive officer for The Campanile Foundation. “Their combined knowledge and experience will constitute a great asset to the board as we pursue our mission of enhancing the excellence at San Diego State University.”
The board consists of volunteer community and faculty members serving three-year terms and a student representative serving a one-year term. Here are brief descriptions of the five new members:
Thomas Ault, ’67, has been a practicing attorney since 1972 in affiliation with the San Diego law firm of Ault, Davis & Schonfeld. Ault is a Sigma Chi alumnus (formally Phi Lambda Xi). He also is a member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel and is also active with the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Association of Trial Attorneys of America, and the Defense Research Institute.
Dorothy Codling, ’66, is president and owner of Codling Company Interior Design. Her company designed the spa interior at the Le Meridian Hotel, currently known as the Marriott Coronado Island Resort. Codling is a Kappa Alpha Theta alumna and is a current SDSU Alumni Center Design Committee member.
Bruce Ives, ’89, is the founding president and CEO of Coronado First Bank. Ives is the former president of Cuyamaca Bank and is a past president of the SDSU Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, and a member of the association’s By Laws Committee, Finance Committee, and Nominating Committee. He is also on the board of the San Diego International Sports Council.
Rodney Lanthorne, president of Kyocera International, Inc., serves as director of the Kyocera Corporation and leads a group of eight wholly-owned Kyocera subsidiaries. He serves on the SDSU College of Business Administration board of directors. Lanthorne is also chair of the board of directors for the YMCA of San Diego County.
Arlene Hady is a third-year nursing student who has served on the Associated Students Council for two terms and is president of the Health and Human Services College Council. She is a resident advisor, a member of Aztec P.R.I.D.E., and a mentor in the Faculty/Student Mentoring Program.
