SAN DIEGO, Thursday, October
14, 2004 -- San Diego State University will host two free college
information fairs this month to provide important information to
students, parents, teachers and school administrators about options
for higher education, including the process of applying to and attending
colleges and universities in San Diego.
The first fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 16,
at Sweetwater High School in National City, followed by the second
event Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Educational Cultural Complex in
San Diego.
The fairs, sponsored by SDSUs Educational
Opportunity Program (EOP) will present free workshops on financial
aid, college entrance exams, transfer options, parent advocacy and
programs for students, especially those with financial need and
those who aspire to be the first in their families to attend college.
This program can ease the concerns of students
and parents who are confused or discouraged about the college application
process, said Reginald Blaylock, interim director of EOP.
It will provide them with free information about campus resources
available to them to help ensure successful completion of their
university degree. They will have their questions answered and will
receive important information about the next steps they should take
to gain entrance to the universities they have selected.
Since 1969, EOP at SDSU has helped high school
and community college transfer students attain their baccalaureate
degree by guiding them through the complex college application process.
EOP also provides other critical services for students, including
tutoring, mentoring, counseling (academic, professional and personal)
and more.
San Diego State University is the oldest and largest
higher education institution in the San Diego region. Since it was
founded in 1897, the university has grown to offer bachelors
degrees in 81 areas, masters degrees in 72 areas and doctorates
in 14 areas. SDSUs more than 33,000 students participate in
academic curriculum distinguished by direct contact with faculty
and an increasing international emphasis that prepares them for
a global future. For more information, visit www.sdsu.edu.
