Luncheon Celebrates National Community Economic Development Day
Richard Heckmann, United States Filter Corp. CEO, slated as guest speaker
SAN DIEGO (March 17, 1999) -- San Diego State University's Community Economic Development (CED) program will host a fund-raising luncheon in observance of the national CED Day on April 7 at the Mission Valley Hilton. The event celebrates the powerful unity between business and community organizations, said CED Director Harold Brown.
"Each year the luncheon is a powerful display of the diversity in San Diego. It shows the synergy between business and community-based organizations created through CED partnerships," Brown said.
The luncheon's theme is "Walking Through America's Communities" and will feature guest speaker Richard Heckmann, chairman and CEO of United States Filter Corp., parent company of Culligan Water. Robert Payne, president of Multi-Ventures, Inc. and owner of the Mission Valley Hilton and Hanalei hotels, and Julie Meier Wright, president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. are the event's co-chairs.
The CED program is a seven-month business curriculum designed to provide students with an understanding of business and economic concepts and how to apply them to the development of neighborhoods and communities for the benefit of its residents. The CED program is part of SDSU's College of Business Administration.
Proceeds of the luncheon will benefit SDSU's CED Program. Advance reservations are required. For reservations, please contact the Community Economic Development office at (619) 594-6437.
