SDSU Names New Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
San Diego State University President Stephen L. Weber today announced the appointment of Nancy Marlin, Ph.D., as the University’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Marlin, a professor of psychology, has previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Northern Iowa and Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and Academic Associate to the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Missouri. She will assume her duties at SDSU early in July.
Weber said the search committee had reviewed more than 100 candidates before recommending Marlin for the position.
“Nancy’s professional credentials clearly demonstrate that she shares SDSU's dedication to academic quality and life-long learning, and that she is passionate about public higher education,” Weber observed. “Her accomplishments in fostering diversity at Northern Iowa and her commitment to the international arena will serve us well. We look forward to her joining the San Diego State family.”
Marlin cited SDSU’s reputation for combining teaching and research with community service as a major factor in her decision to accept the position.
"Working with the fine faculty and staff members who have made this institution such a vital part of the community, I am anxious to explore the many opportunities San Diego State has to become one of the leaders in higher education in the twenty-first century,” she added.
