Older American’s Month ; Retired Educators to Explore Smart Classroom at SDSU

 

WHAT: Members of the retired educators association of Casa de Campanas retirement home in Rancho Bernardo will tour San Diego State University and experience the latest in teacher education via the technology of a smart classroom. The event is presented by SDSU College of Education. May is Older American’s Month.

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, May 15

· Smart classroom visit: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., room 71 of the North Education Building

SMART CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS:

· Teaching elementary teachers to use technology: Nadine Bezuk, associate director of the School of Teacher Education, will demonstrate classroom uses for the internet and computer programs for developing lesson plans.

· New Special Education Credential: Gene Valles, assistant professor in special education, will provide an update on the new stand-alone credential for special education.

· Virtual Tour of the California Missions: Bob Hoffman, assistant professor in Educational Technology, will demonstrate a virtual tour of the California missions which he is developing. Wearing 3-D glasses, the seniors will be able to enter rooms and "touch and turn" objects which are often off limits at historical sites. Fourth grades who have visited local missions say the virtual tour is better than the real thing.
