MEDIA ADVISORY: Why are we fascinated with the Super Bowl?
. . . ask one local Super Bowl researcher.
CONTACT: Rosemary Gladden, 594-2585
Since 1973, Michael Real, director of SDSU's School of Communication, has conducted research about the Super Bowl and can provide interesting tidbits of information. For example, did you know that actual playing time is only about eight minutes?
Real's research also looks at the recurring social aspects of the event. For example, he looks at the communal focus of the game; the personal identification that fans make with teams; and the players that become heroes. He also contrasts the Super Bowl and another sport's championship game, World Cup Soccer.
If you would like to interview Mike Real, during the week he can be reached at his office at 594-4255. His home telephone number is 755-3060.
