Lightworks, a digital nonlinear film editing system used by major film studios, was recently donated to SDSU's School of Communication by Lightworks Editing Systems of Los Angeles.

SDSU filmmaker in residence Jack Ofield said, "The Lightworks system is computer driven and reduces the time needed for film editing. Since Lightworks is the current technology of the film editing industry, SDSU students will be better prepared to compete for work in the film and television industry. Our graduates can go right into a company and immediately sit down and start working."

The donation was facilitated by SDSU Communications Professor Tom Meador and SDSU alumnus Hal Harrison who is vice president of production at Viacom. Both have collaborated to arrange internship opportunities for SDSU students in the film industry.

Senior and graduate film students will be using the system when the new semester starts on January 27.
