Contact: Rick Moore, (619) 594-5204.
Opening day enrollment for the Spring 1997 semester at San Diego State University is somewhat higher, continuing a trend noted since Spring 1995. The increase is due to the large number of previously enrolled students who have returned to continue their education, according to admissions officials.
As of the first day of classes, 27,213 students had enrolled at the San Diego campus, an increase of 603 over enrollment at the beginning of the Spring 1996 semester, which was 26,610. Spring 1995 enrollment was 25,136 on opening day.
The average unit load carried by students continues a gradual increase, indicating students are able to find and register for classes.
Students will adjust their schedules and enrollment figures are expected to change between opening day and the official census date, February 21. In 1996, enrollment increased by approximately 1,400 students during schedule adjustment.
SDSU's Imperial Valley Campus at Calexico has 637 students as it begins the Spring 1997 semester.
