Tracing path from Zionism to Statehood

Three outstanding scholars on Arab and Jewish history will discuss "From Zionism to Statehood: 1897, 1917, 1947," at the annual Glickman-Galinson Symposium to be held Sunday, April 20, from 2-4 p.m., at San Diego State University's International Student Center, 5433 55th Street.
"Basel and the Birth of Zionism" will be presented by David N. Myers of the Department of History, UCLA. Dr. Myers is the author of "Reinventing the Jewish Past."
"Promises to the Arabs, Promises to the Jews: The Balfour Declaration in Historical Perspective" will be presented by Joshua Teitelbaum of the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies, Tel Aviv University. Dr. Teitelbaum is the author of "A Modern History of Saudi Arabia."
"Arab Responses to the U.N.'s Partition of Palestine" will be presented by Michael Winter of the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies, Tel Aviv University, and SDSU's Lipinsky Institute Visiting Israeli Professor, 1996-1997. Dr. Winter is the author of "Egyptian Society under Ottoman Rule."
The Glickman-Galinson Symposium is made possible by an endowment established by Joseph and Beverly Glickman and Murray and Elaine Galinson, and is presented by the Lipinsky Institute for Judaic Studies in SDSU's College of Arts and Letters.
