Scoping out extraterrestrial intelligence, SDSU lecture April 26
"Extraterrestrial Intelligence, Martian Microorganisms, Project Phoenix, and the Keck Telescope," is the title of the 1997 John Schopp Memorial Lecture in astronomy to be presented by Dr. Ben Zuckerman at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 26, in the Chemistry-Geology Building, room 333, at San Diego State University.
A professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCLA, Dr. Zuckerman's major scientific interests are the birth and death of stars, interstellar molecules, and the search for other solar systems.
He has maintained a continuing interest in the question of the prevalence of life and has regularly taught a course entitled "Life in the Universe." Among the six books he has co-edited are "Extraterrestrials, Where Are They?" "The Origin and Evolution of the Universe," and "Human Population and the Environmental Crisis."
The Schopp Lecture is sponsored jointly by the SDSU Department of Astronomy and the Mount Laguna Observatory Associates. The lecture is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Parking Structure I on the east side of College Avenue.
