Of the 236 accredited public administration programs in the country, SDSU placed in the top 20 for faculty research productivity, according to a ranking recently published in the Public Administration Review.

"This shows that SDSU's public administration faculty, in addition to providing an educational service to the San Diego community, is contributing to the knowledge base in the field," said Louis Rea, director of SDSU's School of Public Administration and Urban Studies. "Our students also benefit because the research that our faculty are producing is being shared in the classrooms."

Programs were ranked based on the number of articles published in the field's leading journals from 1986 to 1993. SDSU ranked 18th, beating out schools such as Harvard, University of Michigan and Penn State. Only two other California universities, USC and UC Berkeley, ranked higher.

These rankings were a follow up to a previous evaluation which ranked faculty productivity from the years 1981 to 1985. SDSU was not previously ranked. Rankings were published in the September/October 1996 issue of the Public Administration Review, a bimonthly journal produced by the American Society for Public Administration.
