Free Asian studies lecture series announced

San Diego State University's Center for Asian Studies announces three lectures for its spring series. All lectures take place at SDSU's International Student Center, 5433 55th Street. Convenient free paking is available next to the Center. All lectures are free and open to the public. For information, call (619) 594-5262 or 594-5492. Following is a schedule of speakers and topics:
February 6 at 6 p.m. "Philippines: Today and Tomorrow," by Richard Gordon. "Asia Week" magazine has described Gordon as one of the future national leaders in Asia, and public opinion suggests he might be the next president of the Philippines. Gordon currently is chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. This program is cosponsored by SDSU's Center for International Business Education and Research, A.B. Samahan Student Association, and the World Affairs Council.
February 8 at 10:30 a.m. "Indian Economic Reform: Fact or Fantasy," a symposium. The panelists will be: Dr. Prasanta Patnaik, Distinguished Professor of Economics, University of California, Riverside; Dr. Girisesh Pant, Professor of International Relations, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi; and Dr. Sushama Mehr-Ashraf, Associate Professor of Adult Education, University of Delhi. Dr. M.C. Madhavan, SDSU Professor of Economics and Director, Asian studies program, will be the moderator.This program is cosponsored by the San Diego Indian American Society. Following the program there will be a no-host lunch.
March 8 at 10:30 a.m. "Indo-U.S. Relations: Are they upward bound?" by Ambassador Shyamala B. Cowsik. Ambassador Cowsik, deputy chief of mission at India's Washington embassy, is one of India's senior foreign service officers. She has held many diplomatic positions including ambassador of India to the Philippines. This program is cosponsored by the San Diego Indian American Society. Following the program there will be a no-host lunch.
