SDSU Opens its Doors to Future Aztecs

SAN DIEGO, Thursday, March 02, 2000 - Thousands of prospective freshmen, college transfer students and parents are expected to tour San Diego State University during its fifth annual Open House on Saturday, March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Staff will offer workshops covering issues such as "The Value of a SDSU Degree in Today's Marketplace," on campus housing, financial aid tips, Freshman Success Programs and more.
"At our Open House we want to demonstrate our commitment to making college a well rounded experience for our students," said Stephen L. Weber, president. "The University has a wealth programs in just about every area of interest including community involvement; multi-cultural studies, such as Chicana/o Studies, African American Studies, Native American Indian studies and international programs such as the nation's largest international business curriculum with study/ work abroad opportunities."
Faculty from SDSU's seven colleges will give presentations about academic programs and many of the 76 majors offered at the University. Also, during an Information Fair student representatives from campus clubs and organizations will answer questions about life as a SDSU student.
"Open House at SDSU is the perfect opportunity for prospective students and parents to get a feel for what this University is all about and what it has to offer them," said Professor Gene Lamke, director of SDSU's Freshman Success Programs. "This is the best way to find out if the programs, resources, services and faculty/staff will serve their interests and needs."
Tours of the campus, library, athletic facilities and Aztec Recreation Center will be lead by student Ambassadors, staff and cheerleaders respectively. Parking is free.
San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region. Since it was founded in 1897, it has grown to offer bachelor's degrees in 76 areas, master's degrees in 58 areas and doctorates in 11.
