Cushman Named Associate Vice President of SDSU's

SAN DIEGO, Thursday, February 15, 2001 Dennis Cushman has been named Associate Vice President of San Diego State University's Marketing & Communications department in the division of University Advancement.
"We are thrilled to welcome Dennis to the University Advancement team," said Theresa Mendoza, vice president of University Advancement. "He's a very talented and respected professional in both the public and private sectors, and a perfect match for the work we do in University Advancement. We are excited to have him here leading our Marketing & Communications efforts."
In his new position, Dennis said he is eager to work with university colleagues to enhance the image and prestige of SDSU.
"I am delighted to join SDSU at a very dynamic time in its development," Cushman said. "The university is undergoing a dramatic renaissance, and I look forward to playing a part in helping shape SDSU for its second century."
Cushman comes to SDSU from the San Diego County Water Authority, the government agency responsible for importing up to 95 percent of San Diego County's water supply. As director of public affairs, Cushman developed, implemented and managed comprehensive public affairs programs for the Water Authority.
Prior to that, Cushman served as public affairs and marketing director for the San Diego Museum of Art. From 1989 to 1997, Cushman worked for Stoorza, Ziegaus and Metzger (now Stoorza Communications). There he began as an account executive and rose to the position of vice president of public affairs.
Cushman was also employed by the California State Assembly as a legislative aide, and before that position he served as director of communications for The Jack Orr Company. Cushman began his career as a newspaper reporter.
Cushman earned a bachelor's of arts degree in journalism from San Diego State University in 1985. He and his wife, Debbie, have two children. They live in San Carlos.
San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region.
