SDSU Short Film Project Receives Emmy Awards

San Diego, CA, July 9, 1999 The Short List, the San Diego State University-based showcase for international short films, received the 1999 Southwestern Emmy for outstanding achievement in the Visual and Performing Arts category for the second straight year. It is the fourteenth career Emmy for the series producer Jack Ofield, professor of communication at SDSU and the University's filmmaker-in-residence.

The winning episode in the 26-part series featured short films from the United States, Russia and France, including Los Angeles resident Steve Ireland's comedy By Default; The Photographer, a comedy-drama by Moscow's Alexander Kott; Lifting, a drama by Christophe Jacrot of Paris; and Les Zins Zins, animation by Pierre Bouchon of Rennes.

"The Emmy not only acknowledges the high quality and unique content of our series, but also the talent and dedication of filmmakers around the world who succeed in bringing their special visions to the screen," Ofield said.

SDSU claimed another Emmy when graduate student Lucinda Bunting received the award for her documentary Assateague: Shifting Sands. The film detailed the history and environmental plight of an island in the Chesapeake Bay area.

The Short List is produced on the SDSU campus at the Production Center for Documentary and Drama in association with the Eastman Kodak Worldwide Independent Emerging Filmmakers Program and Cox Communications. Additional support comes from the Open Society Institute, Dr. Seuss Fund of the San Diego Foundation, Szekely Family Foundation, Las Patronas, and the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts at SDSU. The series airs nationwide on PBS stations and in San Diego on Cox Communications channel 4.
