SDSU and San Diego City Schools Sponsor Conference for Future Teachers
WHAT: What prerequisites are needed to enter a Teacher Credential Program? What type of teaching experience is required to become a teacher? What exams must be taken to get a credential? Is a single or multiple-subject credential better suited for future teachers? These and other important teacher education questions will be answered at a Conference for future teachers sponsored by San Diego State University and San Diego City Schools Comprehensive Teacher Education Institute.
WHEN: 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 1998.
WHERE: Casa Real at Aztec Center on the SDSU campus.
BACKGROUND: By the year 2004, California will need 200,000 new teachers to alleviate the teacher shortage created by the class-size reduction implemented in elementary school classrooms across the state. Immediately after the announcement from the State Legislature, SDSU’s College of Education launched multi-faceted efforts to increase the number of graduating teachers. The College now supplies 50 percent of new teachers to the San Diego Unified School District. For more information, contact Bonnie Telfer at (619) 594-3295.
