Women’s Music Fest at SDSU to honor memory of slain feminist activist, raise scholarship money
WHAT: A benefit concert to support the Andrea O’Donnell Scholarship, named after the former director of SDSU’s Women’s Resource Center who was murdered by her boyfriend in 1994.
WHEN: Saturday, November 14, 12-5 p.m.
WHERE: On the green between the Don Powell Theatre and the Music Building on the campus of SDSU (near the tennis courts by Cox Arena). Parking is free.
WHO: Performers include Reverend Beth Cooper, Randi Driscoll, Mary Dolan, Laura Preble, Bridget Joyce Band, Kitten with a Whip, Melissa McCracken, Lisa Sanders, Kelly Wilson and Dana Lee Wood. Among those in attendance will be Darla Marcus, the concert organizer and former O’Donnell Scholarship winner, who aspires to become a filmmaker exploring women’s issues.
BACKGROUND: Andrea O’Donnell was an SDSU student who served as director of the Women’s Resource Center. She was particularly involved with helping women in abusive relationships. In November, 1994, O’Donnell was strangled to death by her live-in boyfriend in their La Mesa apartment. The Andrea O’Donnell Scholarship was established the following year, and the Women’s Resource Center was renamed in her honor.
