Future Rape Defense Instructors Participate in Certification Program at SDSU
WHAT: Future rape defense instructors from California, Idaho and Florida will participate in a three-day certification program at San Diego State University. During the 30-hour training course new instructors will learn defense techniques against rape and how to teach those skills in classes at their respective colleges and universities. During a "dynamic simulation", instructors, outfitted in fully-padded suits, will let the trainees practice their newly learned skills, including kicks, strikes, and not-so-friendly bear hugs and chokes.
WHEN: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, November 16-18. (The simulation will take place on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m.)
WHERE: Tula Community Center, 6126 Montezuma Road on the SDSU campus. The Center is attached to Tenochca Residence Hall.
BACKGROUND: The training program, known as Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.), is the largest defense training program in the country with more than 1500 instructors teaching at over 350 universities and communities throughout the United States. During the last four years, over 200 participants have completed the program at SDSU. For more information, contact Steve Williams at (619) 594-1987 or (619) 526-2557 (pager).
