Morey Is Appointed Director of the Center for Educational Leadership, Organization and Policy at SDSU
San Diego State University President, Stephen L. Weber, today appointed Ann I. Morey, Dean of the College of Education, director of the soon to be established Center for Educational Leadership, Organization and Policy at SDSU.
Morey, who recently announced her decision to leave the deanship of the College of Education effective June 30, 1999, will assume her new position beginning next fall.
"It has been my distinct privilege to be dean of the College of Education since 1985 and to have the opportunity to work with so many talented and dedicated people throughout the University. These years have been the most productive, rewarding and happiest of my career," said Morey, who in addition to being named director of the new center will serve as a research professor. "Through these roles, I will be able to further my scholarship in ways that hopefully will benefit the field and make contributions to the College and University, especially at the doctoral level."
President Weber praised Morey for her 14 years of distinguished service and dedication.
"SDSU is indebted to Ann for her vision, leadership and dedication," said Weber. "I want to express to Ann the University,s deep appreciation for her excellent leadership and our anticipation of the many valuable contributions to come in her new role."
During her tenure, the College of Education received national awards for its recruitment of ethnic faculty, relationships with public schools (over 60 formal partnerships) and for its outstanding programs in teacher education; greatly enhancing its reputation at the state, national and international level. Also, the College,s external funding has grown from $2.3 to over $11 million, placing it 19th in the country and third in California.
Dean Morey has served as chair and member of numerous national and international committees and boards, including providing leadership to the National Multicultural Education Infusion Center. Her continuing productivity as a scholar has also been impressive. During her deanship, she published four books and 19 journal articles and chapters in books, and has given nearly 100 presentations at national and international conferences.
