SDSU Helps National City Students Learn Computer Skills
Students at Central Elementary in National City, 933 E Avenue, will now have better access to computers thanks to San Diego State University.
Last week, the Office of Housing and Residential Life at SDSU donated 14 computers, two printers and one scanner for student use at Central Elementary.
"They will be very useful in the elementary classrooms to teach the students how to use computers. Hopefully they (the students) will get experience in writing stories on the computers," said Mike Hoctor, director of Housing and Residential Life.
The equipment, Hoctor explained, came from the Living Learning Centers computer rooms where new computers were recently installed.
"We will be using them mainly in the primary grades," said Mary Lou Montoya, Central Elementary principal, explaining that students in first, second and third grade will be learning basic keyboarding on them. A few computers, she added, will be hooked to the National City School Network for research and to make email available to teachers at the school.
