SDSU Aids Needy Families from National City
Thanks to students from San Diego State University and National City Middle School (NCMS), 20 needy families from National City will enjoy a turkey dinner during the holidays.
For the past eight years, students from the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) at SDSU and NCMS have collected and distributed 20 colorful food baskets to needy families or students at the school. This year’s turkeys were donated by Ralphs grocery store in national City. They will be delivered on Friday, December 11, beginning at 1:00 p.m., on the NCMS campus, 1701 D Avenue. The food donation is one of the projects that is part of a partnership between the college and the middle school. For the past 10 years, students from both institutions have been involved in an active program of mentoring, exchange visits, tours of campus facilities, career fairs and student performances.
"This is perhaps our most important project, since it helps us connect to the community of National City, as well as the school," said Carole Robasciotti, PSFA’s assistant dean for student affairs. "It gives us an opportunity to show the parents that we care".
Diane Llera, the school nurse responsible for selecting the families, said, "For families who have trouble getting food normally, the holidays create another burden. This (food baskets) really helps us out. It gives the families something to look forward to." For more information, call (619) 336-7030.
