   About Marketing & Communications

Part of University Advancement, the SDSU Marketing & Communications Department is responsible for communicating with external and internal audiences to gain recognition of and support for the university's mission, projects and programs.

The department comprises:

Government and Community Relations - The government and community relations team liaises with local, state and federal legislators to ensure the university interests are represented at these levels. This team coordinates the Ambassadors for Higher Education (AHE) program, which offers alumni the opportunity to play a leading role in promoting higher education issues on behalf of the California State University system, and especially SDSU. Some of the programs the AHE sponsor during the year include the Legislative Roundtable series, and Alumni and Legislative Days in Sacramento. This team also spearheads University Advancement's new 360 Tour program, which takes visitors into the heart of SDSU to interact with its people and programs.

Media Relations - The media relations team is responsible for communicating SDSU's news stories to local and national audiences through contact with television, radio, print and online media. It determines the most compelling stories to convey, fields queries from the media on current issues and frequently puts them in contact with faculty experts. The media team also prepares materials such as fact sheets about the university and can provide media kits upon request.
Professors & Administrators: Submit news for publicity consideration.

Publications - 360: The Magazine of San Diego State University tells the unfolding story of SDSU in a fresh, compelling voice that emphasizes the university’s outward perspective and synergy with the San Diego regional community. A national award-winner, 360 aims to inform and engage readers—primarily SDSU alumni and friends—with vibrant graphics and crisp writing about intriguing individuals and relevant issues that intersect campus and community.

Internal Communications - The internal communications team provides effective tools and strategies to communicate with SDSU's faculty and staff including SDSUniverse, a weekly news and information Web site for faculty and staff.
