Charitable Gift Annuity

The Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) is another example of how our nation’s tax laws enable you to be philanthropic while also securing an income. Like a charitable trust (CRT), the gift annuity contract transfers an asset to SDSU, and in return, the university sends you payments every year for the duration of the contract.

Unlike the CRT, where the principal is kept separate and serves as the source of the income payments, a CGA is backed by the full resources of the university. In exchange for the gift of an asset or cash, the university agrees to pay the donor an income based on rates established by the National Committee on Gift Annuities (adhered to by charities all over the country).
