Giving to SDSU's Imperial Valley Campus

Our Campus
SDSU’s campus in Calexico has been serving the people of the Imperial Valley since 1959. An upper division institution, SDSU-IVC offers 13 bachelor’s and four master’s degrees, including a nationally-acclaimed teacher education program. With less than a thousand students, the IV Campus provides a uniquely intimate educational experience. Due to our proximity to the Mexican border, our campus serves a diverse student body, comprised largely of groups who are historically under-represented in higher education. Given our regional focus, responsive curriculum and community engagement, the IV Campus has become a powerful engine of economic growth for the region.

Our Vision
In cooperation with Imperial Valley College, San Diego State University-Imperial Valley campus is offering the RN to BSN (bachelor’s degree in nursing) program and also the Bachelor of Arts in computer science. In each case, the lower division program is offered at Imperial Valley College and the upper division program at SDSU-IV. These programs are supported by a $3.5 million Cooperative Title V grant received by the two institutions. SDSU-IV will begin nursing classes this summer and the upper division computer science program begins in fall semester, 2008.
Our Fundraising Focus
- The Freshman Scholars Program: This program is designed to assist prospective students who have graduated from a regional high school and are seeking a small, personalized education close to home, but who lack the financial resources to pursue a college degree elsewhere.
- The Brawley Campus: SDSU's IV Campus opened a second campus in Brawley to serve the people in northern Imperial County. Located on land donated by the Alamitos Land Company, the site will eventually house a state-of-the-art campus.
- Student Affairs Building: SDSU-Imperial Valley Campus is currently seeking funding sources for a new student services building. The current building is in need of replacement due to its physical condition. This building would become a permanent showcase fixture on the 8 acre Calexico campus. This is an excellent naming opportunity for a major donor.
- Computer science program scholarships: SDSU- Imperial Valley Campus is seeking support to “jump start” our computer sciences program that begins in the fall of 2008. A total of ten scholarships are needed to fully support the incoming class. This program is a much needed program that will enable the Imperial Valley to educate and retain higher paying positions in the private and public sector.
Our Request to You
The Imperial Valley produces some of the best and brightest young men and women in Southern California. Yet due to economic circumstances and family obligations, only 10 percent of our population is able to attend college. Some of our most talented children leave the area to pursue their education, which in turn, has a negative impact on the prosperity of our region. By supporting our growth, you are helping us to keep our most promising youth nearby, close to their families, where they can grow, contribute to the economy and develop into prominent community leaders.
