The College of Engineering - Points of Excellence

Students of Project Lead the Way.
  • Our college has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 100 Ph.D.-granting engineering programs in the country.

  • SDSU boasts an internationally recognized group of wireless communications scholars. Professor fred harris, for example, has lectured internationally on digital signal processing.
  • Our college’s Soil Erosions Laboratory is the only such facility in the state, and only one of three such labs in the nation. Through this lab, we have developed standards for preventing soil run-off from the sides of highways that have been adopted internationally.
  • In the wake of 2004’s deadly tsunami in southern Asia, two SDSU professors played key roles in recovery efforts. Govindarajulu Krishnamoorthy, an emeritus professor of SDSU's Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Mirat Gurol, who holds the Blasker Chair in Environmental Engineering at SDSU, were part of a group that restored pure drinking water to a 500-bed hospital in India, saving hundreds of lives.
  • San Diego State is proud to be the California State Affiliate Institute for Project Lead the Way, a secondary school pre-engineering curriculum program established in 1997 to prepare students for a college academic experience in engineering and technology.
  • Our college has partnered with the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation to help increase the number of local middle and high school students studying engineering.
