SDSU Scholarship Challenge
A major initiative of SDSU Month is raising funds to support the SDSU Month Scholarship, a merit-based award for some of the university’s outstanding students.
Over the past five years, Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill has donated more than $50,000 to the SDSU Month Scholarship fund. Through individual donations, or by simply purchasing an Aztec Plate at any Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill, you too can help a future leader of industry, science, arts, education or many other fields.
Rubio’s Aztec Plate:
The combo includes one World Famous Fish Taco, One Crispy Shrimp Taco, pinto beans and chips. $1 from each purchase will go toward the SDSU Month Scholarship Challenge. Find a Rubio's near you.

“I aspire to use my education from San Diego State University to enrich my knowledge and my soul to be able to build a foundation dedicated to kids with dreams all around the world, who so far can only hold a dream and nothing else as a result of society, dictatorship, and illiteracy. This will be my legacy I will leave to the world because I made this choice at fourteen years old, to leave my country regardless of all the hardships I knew would await, only to follow my dreams and to always keep moving forward in my quest to help those who are born to not have a say so for their own lives.”

“My sense of accomplishment on A.S. comes primarily from being the first openly transgender person to run and ultimately win a seat on council. Being open about this part of my life has put me in a position where I am an active part of positive and social change. Wherever life takes me after my time at SDSU, I feel very confident that my time here has prepared me to lead. I have contributed to the diversity and vitality of this campus through my leadership and involvement. I believe that my involvement has already started to move the world. I have helped people to move past tolerance and into understanding. I have offered myself as an example of how to overcome adversity and live strong. By building on my experiences as a leader and finding new ways to push the envelope on social issues, I will undoubtedly continue to be a mind that moves the world.”

“I want to help with U.S. environmental policy issues and go on to pursue a career with the United Nations. I want to travel to third world countries and educate their leaders about current environmental problems and help them find ways to lessen human impacts on the earth, especially in slash-and-burn societies. Eventually, I would like to start my own grassroots organization that serves the global community in many areas. If every person did one small thing to help, be it recycling their cans and bottles, or riding a bike to do daily errands, it will make a difference. I want to help in the earth-saving mission while I spend my limited time here on earth.”

“My goals changed once my beautiful baby girl was born, it was then that I realized that I want the best education for her. To me, that means that I want to develop and test the best teaching methods in science. I want to develop a foundation of science education in K-12 students that they can build on their future. Wanting to better educate others starts with better educating myself. Even as our goals change in life, one thing doesn’t; the need for an excellent education. A movement starts with one person with an idea…one mind that can move the world.”

“I recently went on a trip with my history of modern Latin America class to the maquilladoras in Tijuana. The trip was depressing and shocking to see the moral irresponsibility of corporations operating in this area. Shouldn't they have a responsibility to their workers and the towns that they operate in? It opened my eyes to a new meaning of business ethics. Should the CEOs and consumers be the only ones that the corporations have a responsibility to help? The only goal in business should not be to make money and cut costs. . I would like to be able to help the people that I do work with by making sure wages are adequate, the environment is taken into consideration, and the country as a whole is considered as well before I look at the possible profits that can be made for the endeavor. ”
